Fabrication and Testing of Polycarbonate Heart Valves

Valvular heart disease (VHD) is a condition where one or multiple valves of the heart cannot properly function or work (Small et al., 2024).

This project investigates the potential use of 3D printed polymeric heart valves made from polycarbonate (PC) for utilization in rapid prototype testing. St. Judes bileaflet mechanical heart valve was used as the design reference. Flow and pressure were measured and evaluated for comparison using a mock circulation loop (MCL) in the aortic position.
